fili di memoria (threads of memory), text, ready-made, digital scanning, digital printing, 110×150 cm, 2024
fili di memoria (threads of memory) is the work I made for the fifth edition of Artefici del nostro tempo – Creators of our time, in the Visual Poetry category. This is my third participation and selection in this competition promoted by the Municipality of Venice, in collaboration with the Musei Civici di Venezia Foundation, Forte Marghera Foundation, Vela Spa and Venis Spa. In line with the theme of the 2024 Art Biennale, we all worked on the theme Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere.
A series of 60 photographic details created by digital scanning. Fragments of clothing belonging to different people, some of whom are no longer with us. These threads become metaphors of their stories, each with a different background and geography. In this intricate narrative fabric, an interruption emerges – a “punctured” text, reminiscent of: a hole in the heart, the sky or a boat, gaps in memory, chasms into which one risks falling, tears in clothes revealing the wear and tear of time. In the end, the work plays on the similarity between rammendare and rammentare (en. “to mend” and “to remember”), leading the audience to reflect on how the process of mending clothes can be similar to that of reconstructing memories, the very essence of memory.
C’erano molte trame: (en. there were many “threads”);
[32 images with captions];
testo bucato (en. “punctured” text);
[28 images with captions];
rimane il rammendo (en. The mending remains).
The number of images (60) recalls the sexagesimal system for measuring time.
